Dr. Jake Bergen (they/them) is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Winnipeg. Their research focuses on anti-racism, 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion, mental health in post-secondary education, and teacher education. They joined the University of Winnipeg in 2022 after completing their PhD at the University of Ottawa in 2020 and teaching at both the University of Ottawa and the University of Saskatchewan. Education: PhD in Education (University of Ottawa, 2020). Research Interests: Bergen’s work examines intersections of anti-racism, LGBTQIA+ inclusion, and social justice in educational contexts, particularly in teacher education. They emphasize practical strategies for fostering inclusive environments and addressing systemic inequities in post-secondary settings. Publications: Their recent work explores themes such as anti-racist pedagogy, mental health disclosure in academia, and global citizenship education. Articles highlight empirical studies on Canadian youth activism and teacher candidate experiences with anti-racist curricula. Teaching: Bergen instructs courses in Curriculum & Instruction, Social Studies education, and Geography at the elementary and senior levels.
