Jennifer N. Bacon is an Associate Professor in Education at Naropa University, where she has served as a Core faculty member and Associate Dean. She holds a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Maryland, College Park, an MEd in Special Education from the University of Virginia, and a BA in Human Development. Her work bridges anti-racism, social justice, and spirituality through courses like 'Sacred Activism: Antiracism, Social Justice, and Spirituality.' Dr. Bacon specializes in holistic education, poetry therapy, and fostering inclusive learning environments for marginalized communities.
Her research focuses on racial equity in education, overrepresentation of Black students in special education, and culturally responsive pedagogy. She has authored works including I Am an Antiracist Superhero! (2023) and Sisters in the Dissertation House (2014), and her articles appear in journals like Teachers College Record and Florida Reading Journal. Dr. Bacon also trains educators in yoga and interfaith ministry, emphasizing mindfulness and self-care in activism.
Notable professional contributions include creating Naropa’s JEDI-focused curriculum and advocating for Black women mentors in higher education. Her awards include the 2023 Bookstagang Best Picture Book Award for her children’s book promoting youth activism.
