Jane Memmott is a Professor of Ecology at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Bristol , UK. She has held this position since 2007 and previously served as Head of School (2012–2016), Reader (2004–2007), Senior Lecturer (2002–2004), and Lecturer (1996–2002) at the same institution. Her research spans community ecology, pollination biology, and urban ecology, with a focus on ecological networks and their application to conservation. Education : PhD (1985–1989), University of Leeds BSc Zoology (First Class Honours, 1981–1984), University of Leeds Memmott’s research emphasizes the use of ecological networks to study environmental change impacts on communities and ecosystem services. She has published extensively in top journals like Nature , Science , and Ecology Letters , with work in agro-ecology, urban ecology, and restoration ecology. Her field sites range from English meadows to Hawaiian swamps and Nepalese farms. Her scientific accolades include the Marsh Award 2015 , the Mayor’s Bristol Genius Award 2013 (for the Urban Pollinators Project), and the British Ecological Society President’s Medal 2011 . She has secured major grants, including £839,800 from the Belmont Forum (2019) for pollination research in Nepal and £1.31 million from NERC (2011) for urban pollinator studies. Memmott also served as President of the British Ecological Society (2019) and held editorial roles at Science and Journal of Applied Ecology .
