Dr. Anand Ramesh Sanadi serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management within the Faculty of Science at the University of Copenhagen. Since joining the institution in 2008, he has established himself as a leading researcher in biomass and wood science, specializing in the material science of lignocellulosics and sustainable composite development. His work bridges fundamental research with industrial applications across packaging, construction, and bioenergy sectors.
Dr. Sanadi holds a PhD in Engineering Science from Washington State University (1990), where he specialized in polymer composites and fiber-polymer interactions. His academic journey includes an MS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto (1983) and a BS in Textile Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi (1983). Prior to his current position, he gained extensive industry and research experience at the USDA Forest Products Laboratory, Global Resource Technologies, and as a Visiting Associate Professor at Denmark's Royal Agricultural and Veterinary University.
His research focuses on the material science of biomass and wood materials, with particular expertise in polymer composites, wood/agrofiber composites, adhesion mechanisms, surface-coating interactions, bioenergy applications, and nanocellulose technology. He pioneered the development of highly filled natural fiber composites (up to 90% fibers) in polyolefins and invented formaldehyde-free binders for biomass composite panels. Current projects include 'Adhesion and reinforcement for Superior Bio-based Coatings,' thermal properties of wood, and enzymatic nanofiber production.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications reveals a strong trajectory toward sustainable materials innovation, particularly in bio-based adhesives, nanocellulose extraction from waste streams, and biomass pelletization mechanics. His work demonstrates consistent advancement in understanding bonding mechanisms in biomass pellets, enzymatic hydrolysis for bioethanol, and reinforcement strategies using agricultural waste.

Within the Biomass and Ecosystem Division, he leads research on thermal properties of wood, lignocellulosic bonding, and the development of sustainable composite materials using agricultural residues.
