Marney A. White, PhD, MS is a Professor of Public Health in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Yale School of Public Health. She holds a secondary appointment as Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine and is affiliated with the Yale Institute for Global Health. As Director of Online Education for Social and Behavioral Sciences, she plays a key leadership role within the department. Dr. White is a clinical psychologist specializing in eating and weight disorders. Her research focuses on the complex relationships between weight and eating problems and other behavioral and physical disorders, with recent projects examining connections between eating disorders, depression, and anxiety with dermatologic conditions. Her ongoing work includes mental health sequelae of severe dermatologic conditions, curriculum-based interventions for mental health, binge eating disorder, food insecurity and tobacco use, and food cravings and food aversions. Dr. White's research spans multiple disciplines including mental health, dermatology, nutrition, and public health, with particular emphasis on the intersection of physical and mental health. She has developed several assessment tools and interventions, including her innovative "Self Care" course (Health Behavior Change: From Evidence to Action) available through Coursera, which has reached a global audience. Her research has been widely recognized by news outlets and academic platforms, with numerous publications spanning 2022-2025, demonstrating her ongoing contributions to public health and clinical psychology. She collaborates extensively with researchers including Carlos Grilo, Janet Lydecker, and Ralitza Gueorguieva on eating disorders research.
