Zoë Druick is a Professor in the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University. Her research focuses on media studies, gender studies, and cultural theory, particularly examining the histories and trajectories of documentary and reality-based media in relation to biopolitical projects. She is actively involved in academic leadership and currently teaches courses such as CMNS 210 Media History, CMNS 316 Documentary Media, CMNS 800 Contemporary Approaches to Communication, and CMNS 830 Popular Culture and Media Theory.
Education: Ph.D. in Social and Political Thought from York University, Canada.

Her research interests include documentary and educational media, media institutions and infrastructures, feminist media studies, and cultural theory. She investigates the intersection of media with societal structures, contributing to new screen histories in Canada and the analysis of government policy impacts on documentary film (e.g., National Film Board). Recent publications include co-edited special issues of Canadian Journal of Communication and European Journal of Cultural Studies.

Zoë leads the Distributed Networks project, a collaborative effort tracing Canada’s educational television history. She is also developing a monograph on documentary and cybernetics, exploring interdisciplinary connections between media and technological systems. Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary media discourse, emphasizing Canadian contexts.
