Victoria E. Thomas is an Assistant Professor of Media and Public Engagement at Simon Fraser University's School of Communication. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on Black Popular Cultural Studies, analyzing visual media representations of Blackness and Black identities, particularly centering Black cisgender and transgender women. She emphasizes political/civic engagement, diversity, and inclusion in public institutions.

Research Interests: Dr. Thomas examines media practices of Black transgender women in contemporary contexts, such as the TV series Pose, and collaborates with local Black Queer communities in Vancouver. Her work intersects with kinship formations, intersectional feminism, and institutional transformation.
Engagements: She affiliates with Simon Fraser University’s Institute for Diaspora Research and Engagement, advocating for community-based research methodologies. Current teaching includes CMNS 316 (Topics in Popular Cultures and Public Communication).
