Daniel Ahadi is a Senior Lecturer and Undergraduate Chair at the School of Communication, Simon Fraser University (SFU), and Acting Associate Director. He is also an affiliated faculty member at The Digital Democracies Institute. His research explores media representation, identity formation, and transnational diasporas, with a focus on post-colonial and critical race studies. Ahadi holds a PhD from SFU (2016), an MA from the University of Stockholm (2004), and a BA from SFU (2002).
He teaches undergraduate courses such as CMNS 110 (Introduction to Communication Studies) and CMNS 362 (Evaluation Methods for Applied Communication Research), as well as graduate courses like CMNS 848 (Communication and Global Social Justice). His work includes co-editing The Handbook of Ethnic Media in Canada (2023) and presenting at major conferences, including IAMCR, MESA, and CCA.
- Research Interests: Media representation, post-colonial theory, critical race studies, queer theory, intersectionality, and qualitative research methods.
- Awards: 2023 Top Paper Award in the Media and Diaspora Working Group (IAMCR).
Ahadi supervises PhD and MA students in areas like political communication and diasporic media, and his research often critiques academic methodologies and power dynamics in knowledge production.
