Zachary Sell is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Africana Studies at the University of Notre Dame. His office is located in O'Shaughnessy Hall on the Notre Dame campus in Indiana. Sell specializes in the history of slavery with a focus on its intersections with colonialism and capitalism during the nineteenth century.
His research examines how U.S. slavery influenced British colonial projects across diverse regions including Australia, Belize, and India. Additionally, he engages in public humanities scholarship, notably collaborating with Brown University's Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice (CSSJ) and Firelight Films to support a PBS documentary series on the Atlantic slave trade directed by Stanley Nelson.
