Christopher Brown is a Professor of History at Columbia University, specializing in British history and the British Empire during the 17th and 18th centuries, with a focus on comparative slavery and abolition studies. He holds a D.Phil. from Balliol College, Oxford (1994) and a B.A. from Yale University (1990). His research examines European experiences on the African coast during the height of the Atlantic slave trade and the trajectory of slavery in the British Empire. Brown has authored influential works like Moral Capital: Foundations of British Abolitionism and co-edited Arming Slaves.
