Yue Hillon is a Professor of Management in the College of Business at Western Carolina University (WCU), appointed to the Wesley R. Elingburg Distinguished Professorship of Business Innovation effective July 1, 2023. This $500,000 endowed position recognizes nationally prominent business scholars who advance regional economic development through education and community collaboration.
Her educational background includes:

- Bachelor's in Business Information Systems from New Mexico State University
Hillon's research and professional focus integrates Strategic Management with hands-on Entrepreneurship and Regional Economic Development. She champions project-based learning where students directly engage with local startups, ideation-phase businesses, and established regional enterprises. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes cultivating critical thinking, problem-solving, and community-connected innovation, particularly through undergraduate and graduate capstone courses that bridge classroom theory with real-world business challenges across Western North Carolina.
Her primary honor is the Wesley R. Elingburg Distinguished Professorship, established in 2006 through gifts from WCU alumnus Wesley R. Elingburg and state matching funds to support business education excellence and economic development initiatives.
Hillon actively mentors student entrepreneurs through venture development coaching and guides participants in WCU's doctoral preparation program. She extends her educational impact through international summer seminars across multiple countries, while her capstone courses create tangible partnerships between students and regional businesses to explore economic opportunities beyond Cullowhee.
