Ying Khai Liew is a Professor at the Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne, and currently holds a Visiting Professor role. He specializes in private law, with a focus on equity and trusts, the law of assignment, contracts, and remedies. His research has been published in leading international journals such as the Cambridge Law Journal and Modern Law Review, and has been cited by courts globally, including the UK Supreme Court and the Supreme Court of India.
Dr. Liew is the author of Rationalising Constructive Trusts (Hart Publishing, 2017) and co-editor of the Asia-Pacific Trusts Law book series. He founded the Asia-Pacific Trusts Law project, which publishes papers from a biannual symposium. He also serves as Associate Director (Private Law) at the Asian Law Centre and General Editor of the Journal of Equity.
His scholarly contributions include influential works such as the fourth edition of Guest on the Law of Assignment (Sweet & Maxwell, 2021), and he has edited volumes like Adaptation in Context (2022) alongside other scholars. His research bridges theoretical and practical aspects of trust law across the Asia-Pacific region.
