Paul Davies is a Professor of Commercial Law at the Faculty of Laws, University College London. He holds an Honorary Senior Fellowship at the University of Melbourne and is a Professeur invité at Université Paris-Panthéon-Assas. Previously, he was a Fellow at St Catherine’s College, Oxford, and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. His professional roles include membership at Essex Court Chambers and the Chancery Bar Association.
Education: Paul studied Oriental Studies (Japanese) before completing Law at Downing College, Cambridge. He further specialized in French Law at the University of Poitiers.
Research Interests: Paul focuses on commercial law, private law, and legal theory. He has authored influential works on accessory liability, contract law, and equity and trusts. His scholarship has been cited globally in landmark cases, including by the UK Supreme Court and appellate courts in multiple jurisdictions.
Awards: He won the 2018 Inner Temple Book Prize for Accessory Liability and the 2015 Peter Birks Book Prize. In 2020, he received the Philip Leverhulme Prize in Law, recognizing his exceptional scholarly promise.
Professional Contributions: Paul edits major legal texts like Chitty on Contracts and Snell’s Equity. He has co-authored and edited numerous books on commercial law topics, including fraud, agency, and third-party rights.
