Dr. Yan Qu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Maryland, College Park. He holds a Ph.D. in Communication and Media from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.A. in Public Policy from UMD. His research focuses on public relations and strategic communication through a social network lens, emphasizing relationship management, employee-organization dynamics, and cross-cultural CSR practices. He has been recognized with the 2022 ICA Grunig Dissertation Award and multiple top paper awards.
Dr. Qu's research explores how social networks shape communication strategies in organizations and public health crises. Notable studies include analyzing employee peer networks' influence on organizational relationships and examining global pandemic communication through social media partnerships. He has published in journals such as Journal of Public Relations Research and Public Relations Review.
His work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications, advocating for integrity in disruptive times and expanding communication models to integrate social network perspectives. Prior to his current role, he served as a postdoctoral associate at the University of Minnesota.
