Sung-Un Yang is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Mass Communication, Advertising, and Public Relations at Boston University. Previously, he held the Ralph Winslow Endowed Professorship (2023–2024) at Indiana University’s Media School and the Newhouse Endowed Professorship (2011–2012) at Syracuse University. He is a member of the Arthur W. Page Society, a prestigious global organization for corporate communications leaders.
Education: PhD and MA in Communication from the University of Maryland.
Research focuses on strategic communication management, organizational reputation, public diplomacy, and CSR advocacy. Key interests include employee-organization relationships, crisis communication, and social media effectiveness. His work bridges theory and practice, emphasizing practical implications for organizational communication strategies.
Publications span over 100 peer-reviewed articles in journals like Communication Research and Journal of Public Relations Research. He authored two books and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Public Relations Research. Recognized as a Top Scientist (World’s Top 2% Most Cited) by Stanford University since 2020.
Awards include Best Doctoral Dissertation (ICA) and teaching excellence awards from Indiana University and Syracuse University. Editorial roles include positions at Communication Research and Communication Theory.
