معرفی
Yan Burelle is a Full Professor at the University of Ottawa, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine. He holds the prestigious University Research Chair in Integrative Mitochondrial Biology.
- Ph.D., Exercise Sciences, Université de Montréal (2000)
- Master's, Exercise Sciences, Université de Montréal (1996)
- Post-Doctoral Fellowship, Comparative Biochemistry, University of British Columbia (2002)
Professor Burelle's research program focuses on integrative mitochondrial biology. His laboratory specializes in analyzing mitochondrial bioenergetics, ROS metabolism, permeability transition pore dynamics, and quality control mechanisms like mitophagy and mitochondrial-derived vesicle shedding. The group combines advanced imaging, molecular techniques, and omics approaches to study these processes in isolated organelles, cultured cells, mouse models, and patient-derived tissues.
Recent publications highlight his work on mitochondrial quality control pathways, lipid dyshomeostasis in mitochondrial disorders, and the role of Parkin in protecting against sepsis-induced cardiac dysfunction. Themes include oxidative stress, proteomics, and translational studies in cardiomyopathies and myopathies.
Scientific Awards:
- University Research Chair in Integrative Mitochondrial Biology
Professor Burelle actively supervises graduate students and collaborates with the LSFC Consortium. His work is supported by grants, including his University Research Chair, and spans functional analysis of mitochondrial defects in disease models to stem cell biology.
The laboratory employs cutting-edge technologies to study mitochondrial pathophysiology in genetic and acquired diseases, with a focus on cardiac and skeletal muscle systems.
