Gisela Beutner is a Researcher at the University of Rochester's School of Medicine and Dentistry within the Department of Pediatrics, Cardiology. Her work focuses on mitochondrial energy generation and permeability transition pore dynamics in cardiac and neuronal contexts. She completed a PhD in Biology at the University of Konstanz (1997) and a postdoctoral fellowship in Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of Rochester (1998-2002).
- PhD, Biology, University of Konstanz (1997)
- Diploma, Biology, University of Osnabrück (1993)
- Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Rochester (1998-2002)
Her research explores the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) in health and disease, particularly its role in cardiac apoptosis and energy metabolism. Experimental models include isolated cardiac mitochondria, primary cardiomyocyte cultures, and transgenic mice. Key themes from her publications include mitochondrial protein complexes, ATP synthase, ryanodine receptors, and calcium signaling in cardioprotection and neurodegeneration.
Scientific recognition includes a Young Investigator Award (2001) and a Travel Award (1996). She holds a patent for low-intensity magnetic field devices targeting cardiac and neurological disorders (2018). Her collaborative work spans bioenergetics, molecular cardiology, and neurophysiology.
