Xuelin Bai is an Associate Professor in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Queen’s University, within the Faculty of Arts and Science. She has been teaching Mandarin Chinese there since 1995, following prior appointments at Beijing Language and Culture University in China and the University of Regina in Canada. Her expertise focuses on second language acquisition, particularly in Chinese, and she emphasizes teaching methodologies tailored to the challenges of phonetics and character writing in Chinese.
Professor Bai’s research interests include Chinese language pedagogy, textbook development, and translation. Her teaching philosophy prioritizes a student-centered, practice-intensive approach, integrating cultural contexts and addressing diverse learning backgrounds. She has been recognized for her excellence, including the Frank Knox Teaching Award (2013), and honored by Chinese governmental bodies for her contributions to Chinese language education abroad.
