Dr. Xi Chen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management and Organizations at MacEwan University. She holds a PhD in Management from New York University’s Stern School of Business. Previously, she worked at Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Nottingham Ningbo China. Her teaching expertise spans Organizational Behavior, Cross-Cultural Management, Leadership, and Business Ethics.
Dr. Chen’s research focuses on organizational and individual adaptation to change, emphasizing the roles of identity and self-concepts. She bridges psychology, sociology, and management theories to explore macro-micro interactions: one stream examines individual identity construction during organizational crises, while another investigates how entrepreneurs’ self-concepts shape customer interactions and social networks. Her applied work includes consulting for governments (Ningbo Bureau of Science and Technology), incubators (Accelerator Centre of Waterloo), and companies like Danone and startups like Data Tellit Inc.
Her recent publications address entrepreneurial ego networks, overconfidence in crises, and mental health during global conflicts. Awards include Seed Funding from the University of Nottingham Ningbo China and recognition in entrepreneurship research from the Canadian Council for Small Business.
Professional involvement includes roles at the Academy of Management and MacEwan’s Scholarship Awards Committee. She actively supervises senior student research projects.
