Won Min Park is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Kansas State University. His research focuses on designing protein-based nanomaterials for cancer detection and therapy, particularly through calcium signaling modulation in the tumor microenvironment.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology (2015)
- M.S. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (2009)
- B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Hanyang University (2007)
His work integrates computational modeling and experimental methods to engineer recombinant fusion proteins that self-assemble into functional nanomaterials. These tools aim to enhance cancer diagnosis via calcium monitoring and therapeutic intervention in tumor microenvironments.
Recent publications highlight advancements in calcium sensor technologies and their applications in biomedical contexts. Notably, his 2024 paper in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces demonstrates innovations in fluorescent biomaterials for cancer detection.
Scientific Awards:
- Notable Korean Scientist (2013, 2014, 2016)
- Exemplary Academic Achievement Award
- James T. Porter Fellowship
- Faculty Excellence in Chemical Engineering Award (2025)
Dr. Park advises students like Aishwarya and Eiliya, and his lab actively recruits motivated graduate and undergraduate researchers. He has delivered invited seminars at Hanyang University and Inha University in 2025 and participates in conferences like the AIChE Annual Meeting.
