Jungkyu (Justin) Park is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Kennesaw State University (KSU). Since 2016, he has led research in nanoscale heat transfer, nanostructured materials, and nuclear fuel thermal properties. He serves as Deputy Director of the Nuclear Energy, Science, and Engineering Laboratory (NESEL) and the Center for Nuclear Studies.
Education:
- Ph.D. Mechanical Engineering, Case Western Reserve University (2016)
- B.S. Mechanical Engineering, Hanyang University (2004)
Research Focus: Dr. Park investigates thermal transport in nanostructured materials (e.g., carbon nanotubes, graphene) under mechanical deformation, tritium absorption on nanomaterials, and thermal properties of molten salt reactor fuels. His work bridges nanotechnology and nuclear engineering, addressing energy efficiency and safety challenges.
Grants & Funding:
- NSF Engineering Research Initiation Grant ($199,984, PI)
- DOD Defense University Research Instrumentation Program ($170,467, PI)
- DOE Integrated University Program ($1M+ over 10 years, PI)
Labs & Teams: Active roles in NESEL and the Center for Nuclear Studies, advancing projects on carbon nanomaterials for energy systems and nuclear fuel technology.
