Dr. Wing-Fai Leung is a Reader in Cultural and Media Industries and Pro-Vice Dean (Research Culture) at King's College London's Faculty of Arts and Humanities. She holds a PhD in Contemporary Chinese Studies and has held academic roles at institutions including University College Cork and Academia Sinica. Her research focuses on East Asian film/media industries, digital entrepreneurship, cultural labor, and representation of Asians in media. She is affiliated with the Centre for Digital Culture and leads the Activist-in-Residence Scheme.
Education includes a PhD in Multimedia Stardom from University College Cork (2010), alongside visiting scholar positions at the University of Hong Kong and Nanyang Technological University. Research interests span creative industries, gender/race intersectionality, and cultural activism.
Her work bridges academia and public engagement through BBC Radio, Monocle 24, and collaborations with NGOs. Key publications include Migration and Identity in British East and Southeast Asian Cinema (2023) and Digital Entrepreneurship, Gender and Intersectionality (2018). Recent articles address gender politics in cinema and pandemic media discourses.
Awards include the King's Engaged Research Award (2024) and contributions to MeCCSA and editorial boards of Media Industry Studies and Creative Industries Journal. She supervises PhD research in East Asian media and advises on grants linking activism with academic research.
Labs/Teams: Co-director of the Centre for Digital Culture and core member of the Activist-in-Residence Scheme fostering academic-activist partnerships.
