Angela Ki Che Leung is Chair Professor and Director of the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Hong Kong. An Academia Sinica Academician (2010), her research examines medical history in late imperial and modern China, focusing on South China's medical culture.
Research themes:
- Development of charitable medical institutions
- Hygiene concepts in Ming-Qing society
- Transnational flows of medical knowledge
- Nutrition and moral discourse in modern Asia
Major publications include Leprosy in China: A History (2009) and edited volumes Moral Foods (2019) and Gender, Health, and History in Modern East Asia (2017). Current collaborative projects explore everyday technologies in East Asian modernization.
