Professor William Parry-Smith is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Keele University's School of Medicine. He holds an honorary role as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and serves as Clinical Lead for Research and Innovation at Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust. His academic qualifications include BSc, MBBS (Imperial London), MD (Birmingham), PGCert (Keele), and holds professional certifications such as MRCOG and FHEA.
Professionally, his research focuses on global maternal health challenges including cervical screening in low-resource settings (Nepal/Malawi), maternal sepsis, post-partum hemorrhage, and digital health solutions for maternity care. He leads the NIHR-funded Obstetric Bleeding Study UK and chairs the NIHR Midlands Patient Safety Research Collaboration Board. Clinically, he specializes in gynaecological oncology, robotic surgery, colposcopy, and acute obstetric care.
He is the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists' West Midlands Council representative and actively collaborates on international maternal health initiatives. His work bridges clinical practice with innovative research in patient safety and obstetric bleeding management.
