Pensee Wu

Professor Pensee Wu is a Professor of Obstetrics at Keele University and Honorary Consultant Obstetrician at University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust. She holds roles including Research Engagement Lead at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and Associate Editor of Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine. Her research focuses on pregnancy complications such as hypertensive disorders, gestational diabetes, and preterm labor, with a particular interest in long-term maternal health outcomes.

Education: MB ChB (University of Edinburgh, 2001), MD(Res) in Medicine (Imperial College London, 2009). Specialization includes Maternal Fetal Medicine (completed in Glasgow).

Research Interests:

• Maternal cardiovascular health post-pregnancy
• Impact of pregnancy complications on chronic disease risk
• Stem cell applications in gestational diabetes
• Diabetes screening in obstetric populations

Key Contributions: Developed the OBS UK Dashboard for equitable maternity trials, led the IMPROvED international cohort study, and published extensively on preeclampsia and gestational diabetes. Her work has been supported by the National Institute for Health Research and multiple charities.

Awards: Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (2022).

Teaching and Mentorship: Supervises masters/doctoral students and trains obstetric academic fellows. Leads clinical teaching for trainees and undergraduate medical students.
