David Churchill

Professor David Churchill is a full-time Consultant Obstetrician and Professor of Obstetrics at the University of Wolverhampton, with honorary roles as Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham and Research Fellow at the University of Oxford's National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit. His clinical practice focuses on maternal and fetal medicine, intrapartum care, and advanced fetal ultrasound. He leads international training programs through the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and contributes to national clinical guideline development.

• Anaemia in pregnancy (diagnosis, treatment optimization, biomarker development, and mechanisms linking IDA to adverse outcomes)
• Diabetes in pregnancy (risk stratification and national studies on ketoacidosis management)
• Ethnicity-related adverse outcomes

Recent publications examine antenatal anaemia guidelines, iron supplementation dosages in India, and TGF-β1 responses to therapy. He has received NIHR funding for the PANDA program (preventing anaemia) and a diabetes ketoacidosis study. Professional roles include chairing the MaatHRI data security committee and UKOSS steering committee, plus serving on NICE and James Lind Alliance panels. Teaching spans postgraduate MOET/cCRISP courses and international life-saving skills training in Kenya, Malawi, and Bangladesh.
