Fionnuala Breathnach

Dr. Fionnuala Breathnach is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and a Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist at the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin. She holds advanced qualifications including an MD from RCSI (2008) and a Bachelor of Medicine from Trinity College Dublin (1997). Her research focuses on diabetes in pregnancy, fetal abnormality screening, and twin gestation outcomes. She leads the HRB-MBCTN clinical trials network and has published extensively in high-impact journals.

Her research interests include optimizing prenatal screening for congenital heart defects and improving fetal growth assessment. Recent work examines the role of low-dose aspirin in pregestational diabetes and neonatal outcomes. She actively supervises postgraduate students and teaches at RCSI, including a Technology-Enhanced Learning project (2015–2016).
