William L. Murphy serves as a full-time Assistant Professor in the Division of Criminal Justice, Legal Studies, and Homeland Security at St. John's University's Collins College of Professional Studies. He holds a J.D. from Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center. Prior to academia, he practiced law specializing in labor/employment litigation and criminal defense. His teaching focuses on Employment Law, Litigation Practice, and Legal Research/Writing. His research interests include Title VII, Fair Labor Standards Act, and Fourth Amendment Law. In 2016, he received the Legal Society Distinguished Service Award for his contributions to the Legal Studies Program. Murphy previously served as an Adjunct Professor and Career and Internship Advisor.
He teaches courses such as LES 1004 Litigation Practice, LES 1020 Employment Law & Practice, and LES 1102 Legal Research & Writing II. His professional experience includes roles as an attorney representing both employers and employees, and he later focused on criminal defense and insurance disputes. Murphy is actively involved in the College's academic governance and contributes to its interdisciplinary programs.
