William Andrew Imbrie is an Associate Professor of the Practice in the Gracias Chair in Security and Emerging Technology at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. He is also an affiliate at the Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET). His career includes roles as a senior advisor on cyber policy at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, a Senior Fellow at CSET, and speechwriter to Secretary John Kerry at the U.S. Department of State.
Education: Ph.D. in International Relations (Georgetown University), M.A. in International Relations (Walsh School of Foreign Service), B.A. in Humanities (Connecticut College).
Research focuses on AI's impact on international security, cyber policy, and emerging technologies' strategic implications. His works appear in Foreign Affairs, War on the Rocks, and Defense One, with books examining U.S. foreign policy and AI governance.
Recognized as a 2018 Shawn Brimley Fellow and contributor to the National Security Commission on AI. Advises on tech policy and has held roles in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
Resides in Maryland with his wife Teresa Eder, a foreign policy analyst and journalist.
