Will May is a Professor in Modern & Contemporary Literature at the University of Southampton, affiliated with the Southampton Institute for Arts and Humanities (SIAH) and the Centre for Modern and Contemporary Writing (CMCW). He holds a PhD from Balliol College, Oxford, and has held roles including Head of English (2017-2019). His research focuses on mentoring in poetry, literary communities, and creative culture’s role in regional recovery, supported by AHRC and Leverhulme grants. Notable projects include the Invisible Mentors initiative and the F.T. Prince Memorial Lecture. He teaches modules like Creative Writing in Schools and supervises PhD students in poetry and eco-literature. Awards include the CCUE Book Prize (2011) for Stevie Smith and Authorship.
