Professor Stephanie Jones is a Professor of Literature and Law at the University of Southampton. Her research focuses on intersections between literature, law, postcolonial studies, and marine/maritime literatures. She holds a BA and LLB from the Australian National University, and a PhD from the University of Cambridge.
Her current research explores piracy representations in legal/fictional texts, the critical role of creative writing in environmental issues, and the power of literature to interrogate human rights frameworks. She is affiliated with prominent research groups including the Centre for Modern and Contemporary Writing (CMCW) and the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute.
Teaching includes foundational modules like 'English on the Move' and 'Literary Transformations,' advanced topics such as 'Decolonising Modernity,' and MA programs emphasizing eco-criticism and postcolonial studies. She supervises interdisciplinary PhD projects focused on marine worlds, coastal cultures, and environmental discourse.
Notable collaborations include the COAST Network+ for coastal resilience and research on Somali women's poetry. Her work integrates creative writing with environmental challenges, reflecting a commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship.
