Will Campbell is a Professor of Saxophone and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Previously, he held the same position at Northeastern State University. He earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Saxophone Performance from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and degrees from the University of North Texas, including a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies and Master of Music in Saxophone Performance.
His research interests focus on jazz performance, saxophone techniques, and music education. He has published in journals such as Jazz Education Journal, The Saxophone Journal, and The Saxophone Symposium. Campbell has received prestigious grants, including the NEA Jazz Fellowship in 1995 and a UNC Charlotte Faculty Research Grant in 2007.
He has performed internationally with renowned artists like Harry Connick Jr., the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and ensembles such as the Charlotte Symphony. His recordings include Think Tank (2007) and Clarity (2015), praised for innovative compositions and performance. Campbell has led educational initiatives, including faculty roles at the University of North Texas Summer Jazz Workshop and All-State Jazz Band direction in multiple states.
He is an endorsed Artist/Clinician for the Conn-Selmer Company and Performing Artist for D’Addario Reeds, emphasizing commitment to music education and instrument advocacy.
