Andre Acevedo

Andre Acevedo serves as a Visiting Instructor of Jazz in the School of Music at Millikin University, teaching saxophone and jazz studies. An accomplished performer, he has worked with the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus Band, Broadway musical productions, cruise ships, and the American Elvis Live!: National Tour.

His academic credentials include:

• Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of North Florida
• Master of Music in Jazz and Studio Music from the University of Memphis
• Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Dr. Acevedo's research centers on jazz pedagogy, specifically saxophone instruction methodology. His doctoral dissertation examined the efficacy of jazz solo transcriptions as pedagogical tools for undergraduate saxophonists, bridging performance practice and educational theory. He brings professional performance experience into his teaching, emphasizing practical application of jazz techniques.

As a Conn-Selmer Center Stage Performing Artist and D'addario educational artist, he performs exclusively on Yanagisawa and Selmer saxophones with D'addario reeds. Prior to Millikin, he maintained a studio of fifty+ pre-college students in Texas whose achievements included placements in region, area, and Texas All-State bands.
