Wendy Hughes

Wendy Hughes is a Senior Lecturer in Primary Education (History and Geography) at St Mary's University. She leads undergraduate year three programmes and oversees history and geography across all curricula. Her roles include year lead, personal tutor, and link tutor, supporting student development. Prior to academia, she held extensive leadership roles in primary education, including acting headteacher, deputy headteacher, and phase leader in both mainstream and SEND schools. She has also served as a governor in three educational settings and an external examiner for Birmingham Newman University.

Her research focuses on inclusive education, particularly integrating foundation subjects to meet diverse learner needs. She develops CPD programs to enhance teaching quality and collaborates with local primary schools, creating experiential learning opportunities for her students. Notably, she established a partnership with a historic house to enable student-led teaching projects for schoolchildren.
