Wen Xie is a Professor and Joseph Koslow Endowed Chair of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, and holds a joint appointment in Pharmacology & Chemical Biology at the School of Medicine. He chairs the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and leads a lab focused on nuclear receptor regulation of drug metabolism and its implications in human diseases.
Dr. Xie earned his MD from Peking University Health Science Center and PhD in Cell Biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Postdoctoral training at the Salk Institute preceded his faculty appointment at Pitt. His research employs genetically engineered mice to study liver diseases (fibrosis, NASH, cancer), metabolic syndrome, and endocrine disorders.
- Education:
- MD - Peking University Health Science Center
- PhD - Cell Biology, University of Alabama at Birmingham
Research interests center on nuclear receptors' role in xenobiotic/endobiotic homeostasis, with emphasis on PXR, CAR, and AHR pathways. Key findings include mechanisms linking metabolic enzymes to liver disease progression and drug toxicity.
Dr. Xie has authored 200+ publications (14,000+ citations, H-index 66), edited two books, and serves on NIH review panels. Awards include AAAS Fellowship and the NIEHS RIVER Award.
- Lab Activities: Openings for students/postdocs in liver disease, immunology, and systems biology approaches.
