Wang Pengji

Associate Professor Wang Pengji is the Acting Academic Head of the JCU Singapore Business School at James Cook University (Singapore Campus). She holds a PhD in Strategy and Policy from the National University of Singapore (2004–2011), an MA in Industrial Economics from Nankai University (2001–2004), and a BA in Management (Marketing) from Nankai University (1997–2001). Her research bridges Eastern and Western business practices, focusing on corporate governance, sustainable marketing, and cross-cultural management. She teaches MBA-level marketing and management courses and undergraduate economics.

Dr. Wang’s research employs mixed-methods approaches, including archival data analysis, surveys, and qualitative methods like thematic analysis. Her work appears in top-tier journals such as International Business Review, Journal of Business Ethics, and Global Environmental Change. She collaborates with industry partners like the World Wildlife Fund and Singapore Institute of Directors on projects addressing sustainable business practices and circular economy initiatives.

Research Themes: Her recent articles explore topics like mentoring relationships in management, retail brand strategies, consumer perceptions of sustainable packaging, and cross-cultural food waste decisions. These studies highlight her expertise in sustainability, marketing, and international business.

Awards: She has received the Research Excellence Award (2021), Australasian Marketing Journal Best Paper (2021), and dual recognitions as Best Researcher (2016) and Best Academic (2016) at JCU Singapore.

Advising & Grants: Supervises PhD candidates researching digital influencer marketing and workplace technology adoption. Engaged in funded projects evaluating storytelling strategies for e-commerce live-streamers (2024–2025). Also contributed to books on indigenous entrepreneurship in Southeast Asia and post-pandemic workplace dynamics.

Labs/Teams: Serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Tropical Futures and leads interdisciplinary teams collaborating with NGOs and industry stakeholders to address global challenges like food waste and sustainable packaging.
