Volker Prott

Volker Prott is a Senior Lecturer in Politics, History and International Relations at Aston University, where he also serves as History Programme Director. His research focuses on nationalism, borders, ethnic violence, and humanitarian politics in 20th-century Europe, with a current project analyzing Cold War foreign interventions in cases like the Congo Crisis and Indo-Pakistani conflicts. He holds a PhD from the European University Institute (2013) and an MA from Humboldt-University and Free University Berlin (2009).

• Teaches courses: 'Contemporary Britain: From the Boer War to Brexit' and 'Humanitarian Action and Foreign Intervention.'
• Professional memberships: Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and member of BISA and the New Diplomatic History Network.

Recent research explores UN conflict management in post-colonial crises (Congo, Kashmir, East Pakistan) and the legacy of post-WWI plebiscites. His monograph 'The Politics of Self-determination' (Oxford UP, 2016) examines territorial remapping in Europe (1917–23). He frequently presents at international conferences and engages in media discussions on historical conflicts, including the Partition of India.
