Vivian Asare, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. She serves as Associate Medical Director of the Yale Centers for Sleep Medicine and Vice Chief of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine Section. Her clinical focus includes sleep disordered breathing, REM sleep behavior disorder in PTSD patients, and parasomnias. Dr. Asare leads the Compassionate CPAP Service to expand access to CPAP therapy for underserved populations and runs a CPAP support group at the Yale Sleep Center.
Education: BSc in Biology (Brown University, 2006), MD (Howard University, 2010), Internal Medicine Residency (Tufts Medical Center, 2013), Sleep Medicine Fellowship (University of Pennsylvania, 2016).
Research emphasizes improving sleep apnea treatment equity through initiatives like the Compassionate CPAP Service. She has received a 2022 AASM Foundation Community Sleep Health Grant to fund CPAP equipment for uninsured patients. Her advocacy work includes organizing global health missions and promoting DEI in medical education and practice.
