Dr. Virág Blazsek is a Lecturer in Commercial, Corporate, and Banking Law and Deputy Director of the Centre for Business Law and Practice at the University of Leeds School of Law. She specializes in banking law, financial regulation, and crisis management with a focus on comparative analysis. Her work examines bank bailouts, resolution frameworks, and post-2008 regulatory reforms across the U.S., EU, and individual states like Spain and Hungary.
Education: Holds a JD and PhD from Eötvös Loránd University, SJD from Central European University, and LLMs from George Washington University and Suffolk University. She has practiced law for over a decade, including roles at OTP Bank and the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund.
Research Interests: Legal-regulatory responses to financial crises, bank resolution mechanisms, and stability frameworks. Her book Banking Bailout Law (Routledge, 2020) analyzes bailout failures and proposes regulatory improvements. She has contributed to projects on EU resolution authorities and FinTech partnerships through the Michael Beverly Innovation Fellowship.
Grants/Awards: Michael Beverly Innovation Fellow (2022-2024), Pro Bono Service Award (GW Law), and fellowships at Emory Law and the European University Institute.
