Costanza Russo

Dr Costanza Russo is a Senior Lecturer in International Banking Law and Business Ethics at Queen Mary University of London's Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS), and Deputy Dean for Research (PGR) in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. She directs the CCLS Institute for Regulation and Ethics and the LLM in Banking and Finance in Paris. Her expertise spans international banking regulation, ethics in finance, and bank resolution frameworks. She serves on EU Parliament expert panels for Banking Union and Company Law, and holds editorial roles at the Journal of Financial Regulation International and the Seven Pillars Institute for Global Finance and Ethics.

Dr Russo holds a Master’s in Law and a PhD in Economics, with prior roles at universities in Zurich, Bologna, and Trento. Her research emphasizes cross-border bank insolvency, corporate governance, and ethical standards in financial regulation. She advises institutions like the UK’s Committee on Standards in Public Life and the Banking Standards Board, focusing on regulatory ethics and systemic risk.

Her teaching includes postgraduate modules on ethics, banking law, and securities regulation. Notable publications include the Research Handbook on Law and Ethics in Banking and Finance (2019) and analyses of EU banking resolution mechanisms. Public engagement highlights include speaking at the Global Ethical Finance Initiative’s Ethical Finance 2019 conference and chairing panels on financial ethics and crisis prevention.

Dr Russo’s work bridges legal frameworks, ethical governance, and practical regulatory challenges, contributing to policy reforms and academic discourse on global financial systems.
