Vijay Ramani

Vijay Ramani is the Vice Provost for Graduate Education and International Affairs at Washington University in St. Louis, holding the Roma B. & Raymond H. Wittcoff Distinguished University Professorship in the Department of Energy, Environmental & Chemical Engineering. He oversees graduate education and international affairs, managing ~9,000 graduate students and global partnerships. His prior roles include Chair of the Faculty Senate Council and Faculty Fellow for Entrepreneurship.

• Education: PhD (2004, University of Connecticut), BE (2000, Annamalai University), both in Chemical Engineering.
• Affiliations: Institute of Materials Science & Engineering; International Center for Energy, Environment and Sustainability (InCEES).

His research focuses on electrochemical energy conversion and storage, including fuel cells, electrolyzers, and redox-flow batteries. Funded by NSF, ONR, DOE, and industry, his work bridges electrochemical engineering, materials science, and renewable energy. He is a Fellow of the Electrochemical Society (2022) and has held visiting roles at Tsinghua University and IIT Delhi.

Advising & Grants: Leads the Ramani Lab, addressing challenges in energy storage through advanced materials and diagnostics. Oversee university-wide fellowships and strategic initiatives. Collaborates internationally, including as Executive Director of the McDonnell International Scholars Academy.

Labs/Teams: Ramani Lab (Brauer Hall, Room 3046) specializes in electrochemical systems, diagnostics, and sustainable energy technologies.
