William E. Mustain is a Professor and Director of the Carolina Institute for Battery Innovation (CIBI) at the University of South Carolina's Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing. His research focuses on electrochemical systems for energy storage and conversion, including batteries, fuel cells, electrolyzers, and CO2 utilization.
Education: Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology (2006).
Research Interests:
- Batteries: High-energy-density materials and grid-scale storage solutions.
- Fuel Cells/Electrolyzers: Anion exchange membrane (AEM) systems, PGM-free catalysts, and seawater electrolysis.
- Electrochemical Synthesis: Conversion of CO2, methane, and acetate into valuable chemicals.
