Victoria Souliman is a Lecturer in French and Francophone Studies at the University of Sydney (Australia), with a PhD from the University of Sydney and Université Paris Cité (2019). Her research explores national identity, female subjectivity, and migrant artists in transnational visual cultures, focusing on French, British, and Australian contexts. She previously lectured in Art History at the University of Sydney and has been affiliated with institutions like the Art Association of Australia and New Zealand (AAANZ) and the International Society for the Study of Surrealism (ISSS).
Education: PhD in Art History (University of Sydney/Université Paris Cité), MA and BA in Art History (Université Paris Cité).
Research Interests: Comparative Modernisms, female subjectivity in contemporary art, identity/borders in visual arts, and migrant women artists. Recent work includes studies on surrealist aesthetics in pop culture and transnational art exchanges between Australia/France/Britain.
Teaching: Courses include French & Francophone Visual Cultures, Paris Sensoriel, and Advanced French. Awards include the 2023 Teaching Excellence Award and 2020 Dean’s Citation.
Publications span transnational art history, surrealism’s legacy, and gender in visual media. Current research explores grotesque poetics in contemporary feminist art practices (with student Beau SMITH-DAVIES). Active in networks like WEMov (COST Action on migrant women).
