Martine F. Wagner

Martine F. Wagner is an Associate Professor at the University of South Florida's Department of World Languages Education, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Doctorate in Linguistics from the University of Paris IV-Sorbonne and a PhD in French from UC Berkeley. Her research focuses on contemporary French literature, Francophone literature, and cognitive linguistics, with recent projects exploring Portuguese immigrant writing, female travel narratives, and disability in migrant writing in France. She has published extensively, including the book Les écrivaines francophones en liberté (2007) and co-edited the Luso-France special issue (2017).

Wagner’s awards include the 2024 Chancellors’ Award for Excellence in Teaching and the USF World Faculty Award for Global Achievement. Her work bridges literary analysis with cultural studies, particularly addressing diasporic identities and transnational narratives. She is also engaged in studies on foreign resisters in WWII France and Portuguese dictatorship impacts on literature.
