Professor Victoria Allgar is Professor of Medical Statistics and Director of the Peninsula Clinical Trial Unit (PenCTU) at Peninsula Medical School, University of Plymouth. She leads the Medical Statistics Group and oversees the strategic management of PenCTU, ensuring high standards in externally funded clinical trials and health research. She plays a central role in study design, statistical analysis, and methodological leadership across multidisciplinary collaborations.
Her research interests focus on medical statistics, clinical trials, health services research, and applied health and social care. She specializes in randomized controlled trials and methodological rigor in complex health interventions. Her work spans intellectual disabilities, alcohol-related liver disease, kidney disease, dementia care, and mental health integration.
The recent publications highlight a strong trend in public health, chronic disease management, and interdisciplinary research, particularly in liver and kidney diseases, visual health, and behavioral interventions. Her work frequently leverages large datasets like UK Biobank and emphasizes equity, early detection, and integrated care models.

Victoria Allgar actively contributes to research governance and peer review through roles as Associate Editor for Trials, Statistical Editor for Health & Social Care in the Community, editorial board member for BMJ Open, and participation in funding panels for NIHR, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Swiss National Science Foundation, and the Royal Society. She chairs and serves on multiple Trial Steering Committees (TSCs) and Data Monitoring Committees (DMCs), reflecting her leadership in trial oversight. She also contributes as an External Examiner for LSHTM’s MSc in Clinical Trials.
She leads and co-investigates significant research projects in intellectual disabilities and epilepsy, often in collaboration with Dr. R. Shankar. Her leadership in the Statistical Consultancy Service supports students and staff across the institution. She mentors emerging researchers and fosters collaborative research environments.
