Dr Helen Neilens is a Senior Trial Manager at the Peninsula Clinical Trials Unit (PenCTU) within the Peninsula Medical School (Faculty of Health) at the University of Plymouth. She holds a PhD in Psychology and has qualifications including a Postgraduate Diploma in Research Methods and Statistics, BSc (Hons) Psychology, Nurse qualification, and a Diploma in Innovation and Change Management.
Her research focuses on clinical trials methodology, behavioral interventions, palliative care, and psychological processes. Notable work includes developing group-based interventions for obesity management and exploring oral care experiences in palliative care settings. Her earlier research examined causal reasoning, cognitive processes, and stereotype suppression effects.
Publications span behavioral science, clinical trials design, palliative care practices, and cognitive psychology. Her work demonstrates strong methodological rigor with contributions to both applied healthcare research and foundational cognitive science. Active in interdisciplinary collaboration across nursing, statistics, and medical education.
