Dr. Veronique Machelidon is a Professor of French at Meredith College. A native of Belgium, she specializes in teaching French language, culture, and literature at all academic levels. Her work emphasizes the intellectual and critical skills developed through language study. She annually organizes student participation in the Richmond French Film Festival, the second-largest French film event globally. Dr. Machelidon has created innovative courses focusing on Paris in literature and visual arts, French cuisine, and cultural hospitality.
Her research explores women’s literature, postcolonial studies (with emphasis on North African immigration), translation challenges, and cinema analysis. Key publications include Reimagi(ni)ng North African Immigration (2018) and translated works such as Underground, Unknown, Unseen (2009). She holds ATA accreditation for English-French translation since 1994. Her academic background includes a BA from Liège University, an MA from the University of Illinois, and a PhD from UNC Chapel Hill in Comparative Literature.
