Vanessa Patrick-Ralhan is a Professor and Associate Dean of Research at the C. T. Bauer College of Business, University of Houston, where she also serves as the Executive Director of Doctoral Programs (PhD and DBA). She holds the distinguished title of Bauer Professor of Marketing, reflecting her scholarly excellence and leadership in marketing research.

Her research centers on the psychology of pleasure and self-control in consumer behavior. She investigates how individuals pursue pleasure through aesthetics, art, and luxury branding, while also studying strategies for resisting temptation and exercising self-control. Her work integrates themes of branding, product design, consumer identity, and empowered refusal. She has introduced influential concepts such as the psychological power of saying 'can't' versus 'don't' in self-regulation.
Her recent publications span journals in marketing, psychology, and organizational behavior, with recurring themes in hedonics, aesthetic evaluation, and behavioral nudges. She leads and contributes to research teams and initiatives at Bauer College, particularly in consumer psychology and branding. Her work with the Society of Consumer Psychology, where she serves as President, further amplifies her influence in the academic community.
