Vadim Moldovan

Vadim Moldovan is a Full Professor of Social Work at York College, CUNY. He holds a PhD in Social Welfare from Yeshiva University's Wurzweiler School of Social Work (2003) and an MSW from the same institution (1992). His academic career spans over two decades, including roles as Associate Professor (2008–2018) and Assistant Professor (2003–2008) at York College. He also serves as Professor and Program Director for the MSW-Social Expert Program at the Free International University of Moldova since 2013.

His research focuses on clinical social work in psychiatric settings, international social work in post-Soviet countries, and social entrepreneurship. He has launched and directed social work programs in Moldova, including the Graduate School of Social Work, and established social enterprises in rural areas. His work integrates community wellness models and dialectical social work methodologies.

Dr. Moldovan’s scholarly contributions include over 30 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, emphasizing themes like globalization’s impact on social work, mental health policy, and post-Soviet social systems. His articles often bridge historical analysis with contemporary practice, such as examining the Kishinev Pogrom (2023) and Tolstoy’s influence on Jane Addams’ philosophy (2016).

He has received two Fulbright Scholar Awards (2014–2015 and 2017–2018) for international research and program development. His grants include the Blavatnik Family Foundation award (2018–2024) for Moldovan social work reforms and PSC-CUNY grants for studies on mental health and social policy. He serves as Director of NGOs like Project Casa Mare and chairs the International Institute for Social Work Reform.

Teaching highlights include courses on urban health disparities, social welfare policy, and community practice. He co-developed York College’s interdisciplinary general education curriculum and led initiatives integrating global perspectives into social work education.
