Dr. David Hornung is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work at CUNY York College since April 2020. He holds a PhD and MSW from Stony Brook University and a BA in Political Science from St. Joseph's University. His research focuses on social welfare policy, racial inequality, and labor issues. Previously, he served as Legislative Director in the New York State Assembly and worked as a Behavior Intervention Specialist.

Research interests emphasize policy analysis, community organizing, and anti-oppressive social work practices. Recent work critiques militarization in social welfare systems and explores intersections of technology and inequality. He has presented at conferences including the Peace and Justice Studies Association and CUNY IDEAL.
Awards include the York College Faculty Publication Workshop (2023). Grants include $3,000 from PSC-CUNY Cycle 54 for studying social movements. Professional activities include abstract reviewing for the Society for Social Work and Research and serving as a NASW-NYC CARES Ambassador.
Teaching responsibilities include Social Policy, Field Practicum, and Generalist Practice courses. He has developed innovative teaching methods using simulations and cinema-based therapy techniques. Active in curriculum development and program recruitment initiatives at York College.
